The problem with most religious Christians and dating is they always seem to want to skip the dating part. They are always, "Looking for a mate, someone to create a family with." At least, that's what I hear all the time. There are a few problems with this, though:

1) When you first meet someone there is no way to know for quite some time if he/she is a suitable partner for you. We put on our best faces and try to impress, not exactly natural.

2) First dates are hard enough without the pressure that this may be the first day of never flying solo again.

3) Babies do not make a family. A couple IS a family from the moment they make any commitment to each other. There is no need to get ahead of where you are in a relationship, in fact, it can be quite detrimental. Especially if you end up with fertility issues or other problems, having that expectation of what's next can be extra-crushing.

4) If your faith does not allow for pre-marital sex, you have the added fun of crazy hormones confusing the crap out of your brain until you take actual legal vows. SCARY!

With all this pressure, usually pushed onto people by religious doctrine ("Go forth and multiply..." and so on), it's hard to imagine how they EVER end up with a partner. Therefore, they must meet a LOT of people before they find someone with the right level of issues put on by their religion. So, sometimes they need a wider web than their local communities, and that's where these Christian dating sites do fulfill a need.

Plus, it helps you avoid the gossips that fill every religious group I've ever encountered until you are ready to introduce your new significant other. lol

Agreed. At my school, I thought I might find some like-minded folks in the theatre department when I was in a play last spring, but NOPE.

Hello there. I'm a lonely atheist in a small college town in Alabama. Montevallo is a fine arts school. You would think there would be more atheists in this area. But hey it is Alabama, the most conservative state in the US.
