While I am sure the school has its intentions, the mere fact that they are giving Hitchens the time of day will have undesirable consequences for Christianity. If you don't hold the debate, none of the Christians are the wiser and the status quo is maintained. If you hold the debate, opinions might be strengthen toward Christianity, but some will be weakened and changed. This is a net win for atheism. I like to hear about these debates as it only helps give a stage to non-Christian views.
